2 May 2018 – Interviewing children and young people: Lessons from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse

Chair: Ann Gummow, previously the Managing Lawyer for the Brisbane division of Knowmore, an independent service giving free legal advice to assist survivors of institutional child sexual abuse.

Speakers: Michael Byrne QC Director of Public Prosecutions and Bob Atkinson AO APM who served as a Commissioner for the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and as Queensland Police Commissioner.

This Practice Paper highlights lessons from the Royal Commission in how to approach interviewing children/young people in a way that is appropriate and responsive to their needs when investigating abuse allegations to inform the future development of systems, policy and practice.
